Royal Society Crochet Lessons Book No. 9 contains numerous outstanding patterns. The book is dated 1917. It was published by the H.E. Verran Company. I’ve updated the antique-crochet.com site with an entire page about this book. The page features lots of photographs of the various crochet patterns in the book, plus a brief listing of patterns and contents. The rest of the book is as delightful as the cover is, so I hope you’ll check it out!
Post updated June 3 ’08. The auctions I originally posted about have now ended.

This Auction Has Ended.
This seller has some of the most interesting auctions! The most interesting of which is this auction for 2 1920’s pattern books with instructions on how to make beadwork bags in both crochet and knitting. I’ve owned both of these pattern books before, and they are both exceptional. In the past I’ve sold copies of both books for more than $100 each, although that was years ago. These books look like they have some pretty serious condition issues, so I wouldn’t expect the bidding to reach anywere near those levels for this particular auction. However, the starting bid of the auction is only $9.99, which makes it tempting even considering the damaged condition of the books. I have a web page up showing the projects in the “New Bead Book“; you can click to see it if you’re curious about what the patterns in the book look like. I’ll have to see if I can find my photos from the Virginia Snow book to post. Sharing them has been on my “to do list” and, if you like seeing vintage beadwork projects I think you’d probably really enjoy these.
Edited to add: Web site has been updated with photos of the Virginia Snow Beaded Bags Book. The page is not comprehensive, but at least it allows you to look at more pictures than the book owner made available in the ebay auction. Enjoy!
If you like what you see here, I think you’ll want to check out the new web page I just created, which is dedicated to Antonie Ehrlich’s Crochet Pattern Book No. 2: Bedspreads. The page shows even more photos of the crochet and knitting patterns contained in this lovely antiquarian pattern book. I also wrote a brief description of some of the bedspread patterns you will find in the book, plus I give some purchasing information.
Just a “heads up”: there is currently one copy of this pattern book for sale on ebay. The auction ends on 2-14-08. The seller’s other auctions are also worth checking out. Wow! Lots of lovely old pattern books among that seller’s offerings. If you like vintage and antique crochet pattern books, you’ll find some really good stuff there. The auction I originally posted about has ended. If you’re interested in finding sources for this book, please check the page linked above, because on that page I have lots of different links that will take you to the copies that are currently available (if any.)
The original subject of this post was ebay auctions on my watch list, but now the auctions have ended and those items have been removed from ebay’s database. So, most of the original post serves no real purpose. If you found this page because you are in search of antique crochet patterns by Anna Valeire, please click here to go to my Anna Valeire page. If you are looking for Corticelli crochet pattern books, please click here to view my Corticelli page. If you’d like to see even more antique crochet books, there are a whole bunch of them here. Or, you can click here to view my latest blog posts about antique crochet. Thanks for visiting!
- Here’s a great auction for 3 antique crochet lace pieces. As of now, the auction looks very affordable.
- Click Here For a couple of filet crochet pattern books from 1917- one is by Mary Fitch, the other is a Corticelli book.
- And Another Fabulous Lot Offered By The Same Seller. One of these books is by Anna Valeire- a book that I’m guessing is pretty rare, considering that I rarely see it come up for sale. The other is by Mary Fitch. Both books look beautiful.
I just updated the antique-crochet.com site with a new page about a crochet pattern book from 1917 called Royal Society Crochet Lessons No. 10. The page includes lots of photos showing the crochet projects that are included in the book, and a list of patterns and projects. Click Here For More Info About the Royal Society Crochet Lessons No. 10
Check out this ebay auction! Scratch that, the auction ended. Sorry if you missed out!
(quick! It ends in just a few hours.)
Books included in the lot this seller
is offering for sale sold are:
- Corticelli Lessons in Crochet, book 9, 1919
- J & P Coats book by Anne Orr, 1923
- Star Book of Crochet Designs
- Star Book of Insertions & Edgings, 1923
- A Complete Collection of Crochet Designs, 1934
- Crocheted Edgings & Insertions by Augusta Pfeuffer
I’ve owned several of these in the past. I am working on updating the antique-crochet site to include pages showing you photos and descriptions of the ones I’ve owned, but I probably won’t be able to get it done in time to show them to you before the auction ends. All I can say is, the winner of that auction is going to be in for a real treat. The books are really lovely, even considering that some of them do look like they have some condition issues. Right now the bidding for that auction is only at $9.99 US dollars, which is a fantastic bargain, if you ask me. It’s definitely worth the click to take a look.
I just updated antique-crochet.com with a new page about another old crochet and knitting pattern book. This one is from 1917, and it is called the Corticelli Yarn Book, Lessons in Knitting and Crochet, Book 6. I hope you’ll check out the page! It features photos of some of the projects in the book, and descriptions of the projects you will find in the book.
You simply must see this ebay auction for a set of 4 needlework & crochet books from Germany! According to the seller’s auction listing, the books were published in Germany in 1916 and 1917 by the small arts press of Christian Stoll in Plauen. These designs are pretty amazing. Many of the designs are filet crochet. There are so many interesting motifs, including
- Scalloped Lace Edgings and Borders
- Winged animals ~ Dragons? Griffons?
- Scenes From Mythology
Take a look at the pics below. If you decide to visit the auction, the seller has even more photos in the listing. It’s worth the click! Lots of great eye candy for crochet lovers.
Just FYI, I’ve purchased from this seller before, and was thoroughly delighted with all aspects of the transaction.
