This is such an outstanding book of crochet patterns. The majority of the featured items in this book are doilies and table linens. These items are all so dainty and pretty that it would be hard to choose a first project- you will want to make them all! The floral doilies are absolutely lovely, and the scalloped laces and edgings are breathtaking.
I think the most exciting thing about this book is that the projects are so exquisitely detailed; it is the well thought out details that serve to make the patterns extra- special. If you are going to take the time to crochet, you might as well crochet something of heirloom quality. In my opinion the patterns available for crochet-ers today do not even come close to being as pretty as the patterns in this book!
The name of the book is “Center Pieces and Lemonade Sets“, book no. 6. The author of the book is Marie Antoinette Hees and the book is 16 pages. Published by E. C. Spuehler in St Louis, MO. The book is softcover and measures approx. 7 3/4 inches x 10 1/2 inches. I could not find a date, but I would guess it to be from the 1910’s, possibly earlier.
Some of the projects include:
- Wild Rose design;
- large Daisy Centerpiece;
- Scroll Centerpiece;
- Bow Knot Centerpiece;
- Violet Spray Centerpiece;
- Centerpiece with violets and leaves;
- pond lily;
The book also includes an explanation of stitches. Another cool thing about this book is the back cover, which is an ad for other crochet pattern books that were available at the time. There are approx. 30 different books shown in miniature scale. I had fun looking at the pictures of them, and made some notes about other books that I want to look up on ebay…what fun!
